Charitable Fundraising Event for first Liberian Youth Sports & Development Center
Olympic team athlete, elite middle distance runner and winner of the 2011 Liberia BHP Marathon, Mr. Bill Rogers, is leading the race to create opportunities for the youth of Liberia, a country torn apart by war and ravaged by the Ebola outbreak.
Through the Bill Rogers Youth Foundation, Bill Rogers is delivering on his belief that sports can be used as the common denominator to get Liberian youth off the streets and headed to productive futures full of hope and opportunity.
As Liberia emerges from the ashes of her fiery past, Rogers is helping rebuild the minds of her youth by building the country’s first ever Youth Sports & Development Center. A center that will give them a place to call home for athletic, academic, social and spiritual development.
This Center will serve as a community hub providing housing and athletic facilities for athletes in training, while serving as a place for after school enrichment programs for area students featuring arts, science projects, homework assistance, counseling services, sporting activities, and hot meals.
On October 22nd, 2016 at the Hurst Event Center just outside of Dallas, Texas, Rogers was joined by several of his colleagues to host a spectacular African Masquerade Red Carpet Gala to raise the money needed to build and operate the center.
Several of Liberia’s hottest young musicians donated their time to support Roger’s mission including: David Mell, and Togar Howard. Other celebrity guests and performers included Mr. North America United Nations 2016 Douglas Oneal; and Mrs. United Nations Globe 2016.
The event featured incredible performances, delicious food, and wonderful fellowship.
