By Ihiasota Boniface, USA
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has expressed his wish to work with a much younger candidate as his vice president in the forthcoming general election.
Speaking in an interview with AriseTV on Wednesday, July 6, Peter Obi mentioned his desire to work with Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed a former presidential aspirant on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform and the Pro-chancellor of Baze University Abuja.
According to Obi, there is a need to bring people with fresh ideas that have something to offer rather than recycling the past candidates who have been in one political seat in the past or the other.
Speaking further on the issue, he said “I want somebody who is competent. I’m building a team. If I am building a team, that team has to be a team that is formidable”
Peter Obi elaborated on the type of team he wants while using the one he had in Anambra State, when he was the Executive Governor of the state, as a case study.
He said, “I want to make it the type of team had in Anambra State where I can say to them from Day one if you agree with me in three meetings, you’ll go. That means you don’t have your own idea. I want those who can look at my face and say ‘Mr. President, you are wrong because don’t know everything…because that’s what we need. We need to save this country and we can only do that with a team”
Reacting to Peter Obi’s view on the choice of a younger running mate, social media users have these to say:
