Aisha Yesufu on Sokoto Murder: “They should be arrested and prosecuted for murder.”
Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu has reacted to the video clip making rounds of a man yet to be identified who claimed he killed and set ablaze, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.
A female student of the aforementioned school, identified simply as Deborah has been killed and set ablaze by a group of students of the institution over religious blasphemy.
According to reports, Deborah was said to have been involved in an argument with her course mates over a WhatsApp group when she had mentioned she had passed her exam with the ‘help of Jesus’. She was told by her colleagues to retract her statement but refused.
What later ensued was a misunderstanding that led to her being dragged from her hostel, stoned, and beaten to death with her body set ablaze.
Shortly after, a video clip of the perpetrator surfaced on social media and where he was captured boasting of how he killed and burn Deborah while showing off the matches he used for the act.
Aisha Yesufu, reacting to this on Twitter, wrote “They should be arrested and prosecuted for murder. No human being has the right to take the life of another. This is how we have been breeding serial killers and we wonder how we have wanton killings in Nigeria.”
The school management has ordered the immediate closure of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto State and students asked to vacate the school premises.
