ASA Women USA partners with GlobalGiving to advance cancer and maternal healthcare for indigent Anambra women
PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Laurel, Maryland USA, July 12, 2021 – Anambra State Association (ASA) Women in USA Inc., a registered 501C3 non-profit organization, and GlobalGiving Foundation are inviting the public to participate in July Bonus Day on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 9:00 am EST to 11:59 pm EST. ASA Women USA is participating in the JULY BONUS DAY Campaign on behalf of their healthcare access to the Indigent Women in Nigeria project on Global Giving. This project aims to engage members of various communities in supporting the strengthening of health systems through availability and accessibility of healthcare to indigent women with cancer and maternal health issues in Anambra State, Nigeria.
Over the course of 2020, deep-seated gender inequalities exacerbated the consequences of the pandemic for women around the world. The pandemic increased cancer and maternal healthcare issues for indigent Anambra women due to lack of access to quality health services and insurance coverage for routine and catastrophic health costs in a country with under-resourced healthcare system. Gender stereotypes also limited their ability to access healthcare services.
The NGO encourages the public to join in supporting the establishment of International Cancer diagnostic and research Centre in Anambra State, Nigeria, and strengthening the healthcare system for the indigent women with cancer and maternal health issues through the provision of State-owned health insurance premium coverage, advocacy, cancer awareness and education.
ASA Women USA Cancer Coalition has been empowering indigent women with cancer and maternal health issues through medical missions across the three Senatorial Zones in 27 towns in Anambra State. The organization provided FREE breast, cervical and prostate cancer awareness, advocacy, education, screening, medical and surgical treatment for over 25,000 underprivileged persons, and payment of hospital bills for the surgical patients during the coordinated post care medical missions at three major hospitals in Anambra State. ASA Women USA also donates diagnostic equipment to hospitals with the most recent donation to Anambra State COVID-19 fund, to bring palliative support to indigent women living in Anambra State in the fight against COVID-19.
ASA Women USA Cancer Coalition is raising funds to enroll 100 indigent women with cancer and maternal health issues over 5 years in Anambra State’s health insurance scheme and support the establishment of International Cancer Diagnostic & Research Centre in Anambra State, Nigeria. The non-profit organization has been able to raise 50 percent and is appealing to the public to assist in raising the initial funding goal of $50,000 to begin the project in December 2021.
Special Guests and Cancer Champion Award Honorees for July 14th Bonus Day at GlobalGiving on behalf of ASA Women USA’s Healthcare include Peter N.C Umeadi – Honorable Professor, Chief Judge Emeritus and Life Bencher; Honorable Dr. Godwin Maduka, Medical Director – Las Vegas Pain Institute and Godwin Maduka Foundation; Dr. Emeka Ezike, ASA Women USA Cancer Patron, and Dr. (Mrs.) Ngozi Ezike, Director – Illinois Department of Public Health.
Donations will support the organization’s efforts in ensuring that women can access high-quality healthcare, and that those primary health needs particular to women and their families are addressed. This will promote economic productivity in Anambra State and Nigeria at Large.
On July 14, 2021, donations of $100 and up will be eligible for matching funds from the NGO’s partner, GlobalGiving. The higher the donation, the higher the match allowing more benefits to indigent Anambra women. $100-$499 Donations will be matched 15 percent; $500 to $749 donations will be matched 30 percent; $750 to $1,000 donations will be matched 50 percent by GlobalGiving.
