CELEBRITY SPOTLIGHT: EGOR EFIOK
Today, we shine our celebrity spotlight on the life and career of multiple-award-winning British/Nigerian Hollywood trained filmmaker, Egor Efiok (nicknamed LadyBoss).
This epic scenarist is also the founder of E4PR, a celebrity focused PR firm aimed at rebranding stars to suit her ‘Hollywood meets Nollywood’ concept.
She is currently a Hollywood Weekly Magazine’s Africa Correspondent and the only Nigerian member of the board of trustees of the prestigious Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival (HWMFF).
Her passion for showbiz and pragmatic approach to work has made her stand-out in her career and she has never been afraid to cross boundaries no matter how controversial.
The Journey To Becoming
Born to Nigerian parents in Liverpool, England, Egor Efiok in the earlier stages of her life was a precocious child. Her parents had discovered she possessed certain unusual artistic abilities for a child her age.
Although, along the line, she studied Education at the University of Greenwich, London and took up a teaching profession for eight years, it didn’t take long before she returned to her first love of writing, acting and filmmaking.
Egor’s first ‘Hollywood Meets Nollywood’ film, “Turning Point”, which she co-produced with Niyi Towolawi (Producer/Director) was shot in America and Nigeria, respectively, starring Hollywood actors: Ernie Hudson, Joe Estevez, Cynda Williams, Todd Bridges & KD Aubert; and Nollywood actors: Igoni Archibong, Patience Ozokwor, Ebbe Bassey, Jackie Appiah, Oge Okoye & Enyinna Nwigwe.
Before then, Egor had also produced Callywood movies like: “Murder On The Monorail”, “Kibeban”, “I Am Bassey” and “The Father”.
Bagging Those Awards
Egor’s film, “Turning Point” won 8 awards including an African Oscar (a.k.a NAFCA).
As a result of this amazing feat, Egor was honoured at the “Fascinating Nigeria” event at the Nigerian Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja FCT, in July 2013.
Egor’s latest script, “The Dark Passage Home” also won, respectively, “Most Outstanding Screenplay 2018” at the US Hollywood Golden Screen Award and the GOLD award at the International Independent Film Awards 2019.
The script was also a finalist at the 2019 Mallorca Film Festival.
A Multifaceted Celebrity
Egor served in the government of Cross River State as the immediate past Director General (DG) of Callywood. She is also the president of Professional Filmmakers Of Nigeria (PFN) and the Matron of Ambassadors For Enterprise (AFE).
She is a talent manager and the CEO/founder of E4PR. The firm has worked with Nollywood stars like Monalisa Chinda, Desmond Elliot, Chioma Akpotha and Ejike Asiegbu.
Joining the Hollywood Ranks
Egor Efiok is a Hollywood Weekly Magazine’s Africa Correspondent & Ambassador.
Additionally, she is the only Nigerian member of the board of trustees of the prestigious Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival (HWMFF).
Egor represents Nigerian Filmmakers as a sales agent at international film markets to sell and secure world distribution rights. She has also used her position at the International stage to recommend well-deserving Nigerians for Hollywood Awards.
As an added incentive, the award recipients also get to be profiled and featured in Hollywood Weekly Magazine.
In 2019, the then Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri was recommended by Egor Efiok to receive a Hollywood Award (MOST OUTSTANDING HUMANITARIAN CAUSE) for his global #FreeLeahSharibu campaigns, at Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival & Awards Ceremony.
Egor intends to use her Hollywood and Nigerian connections to create more meaningful recognitions and collaborations within the Nigerian Tourism and Filmmaking Industries.
