Kimma Wreh: Excel’s Baroness, Philanthropist and Serial Business Professional
We celebrate the life and achievements of Kimma Wreh; gentle, soft-spoken yet purposeful and driven, as she clocks plus one today. We call her the Baroness of the Excel Global Media Group (EGMG); the power house!
She is the Chief Operating Officer (COO), EGMG, Creative Director, Tekay Designs, Co-founder, KDE Disability Africa Foundation, Former Liberian fashion ambassador and a Cyber Security Manager.
Early Life
Born and raised in Liberia, West Africa, Wreh travelled to the US in 1988 after political unrest spurred her transition to the United States. Kimma immediately pursued her educational goals, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree from Howard University in Washington D.C. and Master Of Business Administration (MBA) from LeTourneau University in Houston Texas.
A Serial Business Professional
Wreh is a seasoned corporate executive, media, fashion and humanitarian director with more than 25 years experience in business management, operations, Finance, IT, Internal Audit/Compliance. She has worked extensively with Fortune 50 companies including Hewlett-Packard, Compaq Computer Corp, PepsiCo Food Systems, etc. and is a certified Internal Auditor.
Recognition and Philanthropic Gestures
As a Philanthropist, Kimma provides food, clothing and training to assist people living with disabilities in Africa and the US. She serves as President of the Board of Directors and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of KDE Disability Africa Foundation, a USA based 501C3 non-profit organization that improves the lives of people with disabilities through clothing, food, vocational training and advocacy. Wreh founded the Tuan Wreh Fashion Institute as a mechanism to advance the Liberian fashion industry and open doors for young people to learn practical tailoring skills.
In March 2021, Wreh recieved a ‘Phenomenal Woman Award’ from the American Caribbean Chamber of Commerce. She is also a recipient of the Community Service Award from Texas State Representative Ron Reynolds and a Certificate of Recognition award from the Fred. A. Burton, Mayor, City of Arcola, Texas same year.
On January 3, 2021, Kimma was recognized as Chief Chinyere Ugo 1 of Umuhu Atta (Imo State, Nigeria) by his Royal Highness (King) Eze Polycarp Unaeze Anugwo Obaire 1 of Ngugo Inaire in Nigeria. Chinyere means “God’s Gift”.
An African Fashion Icon
Wreh has showcased African fashions at major fashion events at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa Ethiopia, UNESCO headquarters in Paris France, New York Fashion Week, Chicago Fashion Week, Houston Fashion Week, Dallas International Fashion Week, and numerous bridal shows in New York.
She is a champion for projecting African fashion, culture and tourism on the world stage. Her passion for fashion and culture led her to establish TeKay Designs in 1998 and she has been pivotal in positioning the brand as a high end, award winning international fashion label specializing in ethnic bridal, formal, casual wear and accessories with operations in the USA (Texas) and West Africa (Liberia, Nigeria, Ghana).
