Met Gala 2022: The Dress Code to Look forward to
With the world returning to normalcy after the ravaging impact of Covid 19, the Met Gala will be held this year on the first Monday in May.
Recall that the fashion show was put-off in 2020 due to the pandemic. It was declared open again in 2021 with a double version that will run through 2022. The first exhibition themed In America: A Lexicon of Fashion was held on September 18, days after the 2021 Met Gala on September 13.
The 2021 theme, A Lexicon of Fashion celebrated American designers, alongside the socio-political and cultural impact of the pandemic. It was also meant to celebrate the support received from the American fashion community. This is an embodiment of what the Met Gala itself represents. Since its inception in 1948, it has become an annual celebration of fashion and a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
This year, the fashion event, which has been announced to hold on Monday 2nd in New York, would be a continuance of the first part that was held in September. The theme of this second exhibition is In America: An Anthology of Fashion. This time, the theme is intended to shine the ray of a spotlight on the talents and contributions of past and forgotten tailors, dress-makers, and designers; many of which were women.
As a tradition, guests are expected to dress the part, projecting the theme of the 2022 Met Gala. Some of the dress codes to look forward to are dresses that represent the different eras and scenes from the late 19th century New York; such as The Age of Innocence and The Gilded Age. There would also be some breath-taking appearances from A-list guests, just like what was seen in the past years.
A lot of things are kept secret at the Met Gala. Examples are the no-phone and no social media policy, and the list of guests expected at the event. This mostly consists of high-profile celebrities like Rihana, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and a host of others, including designers, making up the 600 attendees expected at the event.
Generally, people on the guest list are granted free entry to the show while individual tickets are priced at $30,000 each with tables going for $2745,000.
According to the announcement made by vogue, on April 21 via social media, Met Gala 2022 would be hosted by Hamish Bowles, Vanessa Hudgens, and Lala.
Just like the previous year, the Met Gala 2022 would be live-streamed on Vogue’s website, with the Red carpet starting by 6:00 pm EST.
