Met Gala : 5 outfits that caused a stir at the Met Gala 2021
The Met Gala 2021 theme, as expected, was interpreted differently by the attendees. While some made a conscious effort to show how far they understood the theme others were considered going too far in driving home what the 2021 theme celebrated.
Recall that the Met Gala 2021 theme was “ In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” It was the first part of a double edition while the Met Gala 2022 serves as the other part.
The following are the 5 outfits that caused a stir at the Met Gala 2021.
ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ
This congresswoman appeared in a white ball gown with the phrase “Tax the Rich” boldly printed on the back. Apparently, she didn’t just come to enjoy the moment, she also came to challenge the status quo. Well, she did achieve that as the phrase started a conversation which was her motive.
Kim Kardashian
She showed up in an all-black body-cum Balenciaga, a creation of Demna Gvasalia. Surprisingly, everyone claimed they recognized her even though every part of her body was covered safe her long ponytail hair. Guess her silhouette gave her out, as the designer Gvasalia has predicted. Well, she fought against her face being covered but we think Gvasalia knew better.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky
It seemed Rihanna and her better half figured the weather would be extremely cold as they appeared all bundled up in their choice of outfit.
Rihanna complemented her black Balenciaga coat with a black hat while her partner, A$AP Rocky appeared in a multi-coloured Eli Russell Linnetz.
Carolyn Maloney
This U.S Representative made a statement, well a political statement with her dress which did cause a stir at the Met Gala. It does go without mentioning that her fans applauded the “Equal rights for women” inscribed on her cape”
Grimes
Projecting the theme is one thing while making a statement is another thing. Who brings a sword to the Met Gala? Well, guess you know the answer already.
Canadian musician Grimes, the statement maker did turn heads at the Met Gala 2021. She was spotted in an extravagant beaded outfit and a chrome face mask with a sword to compliment the look.
We are sure looking forward to more head-turning outfits like these at the Met Gala 2022.
