Tonto Dikeh; a King in her own right
Tonto Charity Dikeh known simply as Tonto Dikeh is a Nigerian actress and a humanitarian. On this day, she clocks 37-year-old.
She was born in Ikwerre, Obi-Akpor LGA, Port Harcourt in Rivers State on June 9th, 1985. She lost her mother when she was just three and was left in the care of his father. She is the third child in a family of six children. She graduated from Rivers State University of Science and Technology where she studied Petrochemical Engineering.
The beautiful actress didn’t follow the science path but chose to go after her passion for acting. Her journey into acting would begin in 2005 after she contested in the Reality TV Show ‘The Next Movie Star’ where she came out as the first runner-up. She started her acting career in 2006 when she was featured in the Nollywood movie ‘Tea or Coffee.’
The actress has acted so many movies after then but the one that brought her into the limelight was ‘Holy Cross’ in which she featured alongside Jim Iyke, Pete Edochie, and Nonso Diobi.
This movie gave her a lot of precedences as started getting offers to feature in notable movies in the Nollywood industry. Among them was the movie ‘ Dirty Secret’ of 2010 which sparked a lot of controversies due to her role in the movie that required her to act in porn-like scenes.
Tonto Dikeh made her music debut with two singles titled ”Hi” and ”Itz Ova”, where she featured Snypa. Her efforts were lauded by her fans but it wasn’t well-received by music critics, as they questioned her ability to make good music. The doubts didn’t deter Tonto because she went ahead to release another single titled ”Crazically fit” featuring Terry G.
As her career and life kept evolving, she took up several nicknames. She’s called Poko, Tontolet, Mama King, and King Tonto. Until recently when she added the appellation ‘AMB. King Tontolet’ to her name on Instagram.
King Tonto took a bold step toward humanity by establishing her foundation; the Tonto Dikeh Foundation. It was aimed at providing a better life for underprivileged and displaced girls, women, youth, and children regardless of their religion, political and cultural diversity.
She got married traditionally to Oladunni Churchill in 2015 and the marriage produced a son, Andre Omodayo Churchill in 2016. The marriage was not going to be for long as the couple called it quit in 2017.
