US Vice President Kamala Harris on Jewish Passover Celebration
Annually, the White House celebrates the Passover, a tradition that started during the administration of President Barack Obama. It has since been suspended due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and this year marks the first time in three years that it will be celebrated by families again.
In the vice President’s words, on her Twitter account: “This evening, the @SecondGentleman and I hosted a Passover Seder at our home and recounted one of humankind’s most inspiring stories. By retelling the Israelite’s journey from oppression to freedom, we remind ourselves that we must always keep the faith and fight for others”
The husband to the Vice President, expressing his excitement about the Passover Seder via his Twitter account, @SecondGentleman said: “Tonight, VP and I were honored to celebrate Passover with our hardworking staff by holding a Seder at the Vice President’s residence. Whether you’re celebrating with your family, your work family, or the family you have chosen, we wish you all a Happy Passover.”
The Passover is an eight-day Jewish holiday that commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. It is celebrated among the Jew by sitting around the Seder table eating unleavened bread called (Matzah) and bitter herbs (maror) while reciting the Book of Exodus. Passover is also known as Pesah, Pesach, or the Feast of Unleavened Bread among the Jew.
It has been observed that the 2022 Passover falling during the same period as the Islamic Ramadan and Easter is a happening that only occurs once in thirty-three years, and it is no coincidence as many believe is symbolic.
We at Excel Global Media Group join in the celebrations and we hope that the peace that these holidays and seasons signify brings true freedom to the world.
