WizKid Essence
WizKid’s ‘Essence’ becomes the first African song to crack the US Top 50 on Apple Music
WizKid has made the African music community proud as his song, Essence, which was released off his groundbreaking album Made In Lagos, has become the first African song to feature in the US Apple Music Top 50 songs standing strong at number 48 on the music chart. It’s a big win for the Nigerian superstar and Grammy Awards winner, WizKid.
WizKid’s album Made In Lagos was very much received by the audience for being equally topical and sonical. The album is a brainwork of an artist who only makes music to feed his fans and doesn’t try too hard to prove the point where he takes unnecessary risks. Made In Lagos is not only a typical music album, but it actually represents growth and ease. In fact, WizKid’s Made In Lagos hit 100 million streams in just 103 days. With 14 songs, Made In Lagos touch the right tones and one being the song – Essence.
The stunning and alluring visuals of Made In Lagos were filmed in Accra, Ghana, and for the song Essence, WizKid collaborated with Tems, and the visuals are directed by DK. WizKid has really established himself as a songwriter in songs like Essence. While listening to the song, you can tell the gulf in class between Tems’ pen and WizKid’s pen.
Essence is the first-ever African song to make it to the Top 30, Top 40, Top 50 and Top 100 of the US Apple Music Top Albums Chart.
